The starting point for the exhibition ‘DOCUMENTA I, 1955’ is an 11-meter-long pencil drawing by Florette Dijkstra, created in 1994. It depicts artworks from Documenta 1 in their spatial museum setting, the Fredericianum Museum in Kassel. Only images of the individual works were included in the official Documenta 1 catalog from 1955. Florette Dijkstra reconstructed the presentation based on photographs taken of the exhibition after its opening.

In the exhibition ‘DOCUMENTA 1, 1955’, the retrospective look at 1955 is expanded with works from the collection.
